South Lake Tahoe Middle School
The above are from the new facility installed in 2007, below is the what was
here since 1968.
This is the original track surface from the famous 1968 Olympic Trials, held
up the hill at Echo Summit. After the trials, the original Tartan surface was
reinstalled at the school. Now, almost 40 years later, the sub-surface is decaying,
the surface is cracked and the track finally has to be resurfaced so a move
is afoot.
Obviously
drainage is an issue. The old tartan tracks I have seen do not have the same
drainage angularity that modern tracks have. There is also snow and obviously
standing water on the track a lot of the time.
