This is shooting toward the north. The neighborhood will not let them complete
the stadium here (they don't want the disturbance), so there are no seats on
the dirt hillsides and there haven't been for almost 30 years since they first
built this stadium. There is a single barrier but I have never seen it in place.
The 4x400 relay zones are marked (in white on the blue track) but the common
zone (2nd and 3rd pass) only extend out to lane 5 while the first passing zone
(in lanes) extends all the way out to lane 9.
Because of the slice steeplechase ramp, the steeplechase has a separate finish
line before the common finish line. I know this well because it is the home
of my steeplechase (also my 200 and 400) PR. When this was an imperial track, it had marks for cascading metric finish lines.
They have the curb and the calibration holes to place it on the track, but
the curb is in storage. If they are worried about the liability of having a
curb out on the track, they still have the outside curb in place.
The track was originally built as an imperial track. When they converted it,
they simply shortened the inner turn on the south end. When they resurfaced
it they were left with the extra lane.
